Pat Travers is a Canadian-born rock guitar legend whose fiery playing and no-frills approach helped define late-’70s and ’80s hard rock. Raised in Toronto, Travers picked up the guitar at age 12 and was famously inspired after seeing Jimi Hendrix perform live—an experience that set him on a lifelong path of blistering blues-rock.
After cutting his teeth in Canadian club bands, Travers was spotted by rock icon Ronnie Hawkins before relocating to London in the mid-1970s, where he signed with Polydor Records. His self-titled debut arrived in 1976, launching what would become the powerhouse Pat Travers Band. By 1978, the band solidified its classic lineup and hit the road hard, touring extensively and sharing stages with acts like Rush, while building a reputation for explosive live performances.
Travers’ breakthrough came with the live album Live! Go for What You Know, which cracked the U.S. Top 40 and delivered the enduring hard-rock anthem “Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)”, a Top 20 hit that remains a staple of classic rock radio. Songs like “Snortin’ Whiskey” further cemented his status as a road-tested, riff-driven force in rock.
Throughout the ’80s and beyond, Travers continued releasing albums, touring major arenas, and evolving his sound while staying rooted in heavy blues-based rock. His music has appeared in pop culture, including the film Valley Girl, and he has collaborated with or earned praise from rock royalty such as Alex Lifeson, Paul Gilbert, Kirk Hammett, and Vito Bratta—all of whom cite him as a major influence.
Never one to slow down, Travers remained a relentless touring artist through the ’90s and 2000s, releasing critically respected blues and rock records, headlining clubs and festivals worldwide, and cultivating a fiercely loyal fanbase known as the “Hammer Heads.” His long-running Pat Travers Band lineups have produced standout albums including Fidelis and CAN DO, along with celebrated live releases that showcase the band’s raw power and precision.
Today, the Pat Travers Band continues to deliver high-octane performances packed with classic hits, deep cuts, and fearless guitar work. With decades of road-hardened experience and an uncompromising commitment to live rock ’n’ roll, Pat Travers remains exactly what fans expect—loud, honest, and unforgettable.
